- Working Title ‘re-upped’ with Universal from June through 2020 to ensure they will continue to have studio-supported overhead, development and global distribution.
- As well as Universal, Working Title have recently formed a strong bond with Studio Canal - ‘Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy’ - and also MRC, Warner Bros and Sony who are in the big six (not MRC).
- This allows them to be able to operate across both studio and indie playing fields, allowing them to experiment and work on different types of films instead of being stuck in just studio work or just indie films which could get boring. This also allows them to continue to make the kind of ‘fare- intelligent mid-budgeted dramas and comedies- that is increasingly being taken over by premium TV.’
- They go to promote their films. Going to these film festivals means that they can get lots more media attention and just general attention as people will see the film and be interested in going to see it in the future when it is released.
- They get lots of benefits by working with Universal. When Working Title first started out, they spent most of the time searching for the money to actually distribute and promote the film but Universal provide them with the money. They also benefit from the power that they have when it comes to exhibitions and deals as Universal are so big lots of deals are done easily as Universal have so many fans and are a trustworthy company.
- Premium TV is essentially just a subscription based television service such as Netflix or Amazon Prime. They provide home entertainment such as films and TV series online instantly so there is no going to the cinema to watch a film as they are released just a few months later on these services.
- It depends on who the studio company is. Companies in the VOD business are spending nowhere near as much as film companies. They may spend around a million dollars on marketing compared to film marketing who spend around twenty million dollars per film.
- $20 million.
- In broadcast programming and motion pictures, a tent-pole or tentpole is a program or movie that supports the financial performance of a movie studio or television network. A tent-pole movie may be expected to support the sale of tie-in merchandise.

Digital Technologies - Generic Research
Evaluate digital technologies used in the marketing of film in the UK in relation to marketing and exchange in the UK. Consider how audiences use and consume film via digital technology.
Synergy is using one product to sell another which helps promotes other products. An example is Disney, they have lots of big films and they sell products such as soft toys and other merchandise. Recently Star Wars has been the biggest Disney film and they sell lunch boxes, toys and water bottles. Disney have their own stores where they sell them.
Disney have lots of films coming out from 2015-2017 and most of the big most awaited films such as Finding Dory have been promoted using different platforms. Ellen De Generes is a huge TV presenter in America and she was the first to promote Finding Dory as she is the main character in it and has a huge following.

A more unique film that uses synergy is Submarine, it started as a book and then became a film and the soundtrack to the film is by Alex Turner who is a big name in indie music. Lots of films use the internet, specifically social media, to promote their films as millions of people use different sites daily so if they promote enough will gain attention. A film such as Suicide Squad will have a page on every social media as it is a film that teenagers will want to see but also middle aged adults. Stereotypically middle aged adults will use Facebook and maybe Instagram and teenagers and young adults are more likely to use Instagram and Twitter. Films will have different social media platforms depending on who their target audience is. Films that are expected to be big will be on the front cover of Empire magazine which is a huge magazine in the film industry. This is how they promote using different platforms.
